RGH E‑Bulletin: Rifampicin drug interactions : 22/10/2012 :

The topic of this week's RGH E‑Bulletin is Rifampicin drug interactions.

"Rifampicin and rifabutin are rifamycin antibacterials that are active against Gram-positive organisms (including staphylococci) and mycobacteria. It is recommended that rifamycins are reserved for MRSA and mycobacterial infections, and for the prophylaxis of meningitis and epiglottitis. The rifamycins have the potential to interact with many other drugs; however, given that the use of rifampicin for the treatment of MRSA is increasing, the remainder of this E-Bulletin will focus on drug interactions associated with this drug.

CHOICE: Detox products lack evidence and are a waste of money : 19/10/2012 :

Following an assessment by consumer group CHOICE of the evidence behind ten popular, off-the-shelf detox products, ranging in price from $18.49 to $89.95, the group says many detox products are a waste of money. Volunteers were also selected to trial each product to provide a snapshot look at how easy the instructions of each were to follow.
