Peak pharmacy body critical of clincial placement funding decision : 09/04/2010 :

The Australian and State and Territories governments agreed at a Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in 2008 to take action to provide quality clinical training to the increasing numbers of medical, nursing and allied health students in Australia.

While applauding the Government’s initiative to provide funding to support clinical placements for professional entry degrees, the Australian Pharmacy Liaison Forum (APLF) has expressed concerns that the funding does not extend to the post-graduate intern year, nor is there any guarantee that undergraduate clinical placements within community pharmacy (currently sponsored by the profession) will be considered for funding support.

Poll result: pricing the cream : 09/04/2010 :

This week's AusPharm poll looked at how pharmacies price compounded creams, in particular 100g of David Haworth's cream in which the cream itself had to be made up.

While most respondents (42%) would just charge the computer's default price a goodly proportion (34%) at least recognise that this is a 'special' case and pluck a number (above $20) out of the air.

AusPharm thinks that if you consider the expertise required to make this and the time it would take a 'fair' price  would be closer to $50 than $20.

'Lister profile: Ben Wishaw : 08/04/2010 :

'Listers who have been with us for some time will be familiar with the sense of 'community' that participating in AusPharm(List) brings.

With that in mind we thought that, every week or so, we'd ask someone who's active in our little community to tell us a bit more about themselves and to share their thoughts about pharmacy.

Ben Wishaw is managing a small pharmacy in Toowoomba and is currently working his my accreditation to conduct HMRs. He is well known to 'listers as an AusPharmList 'frequent flyer'.
