More funding for pharmacy student clinical placements? : 21/12/2000 :

The Australian Health Ministers Conference is holding a meeting today to finalise new arrangements for future clinical training places to meet the growing workforce demands across the country.

The Commonwealth and the States and Territories agreed at COAG in 2008 to take action to provide quality clinical training to our increasing numbers of medical, nursing and allied health students (with domestic medical graduates increasing from 1544 in 2007 to an expected 2920 in 2012).

Pharmacy week draws to a close : 04/09/1009 :

Pharmacy week ends tomorrow and both the Pharmacy Guild and the National Prescribing Service (NPS) have been active towards the end of the week in getting the 'Ask your Pharmacist' message across.

The Guild is promoting the Mirixa Australia program as a means by which pharmacists can assist patients achieve the best outcomes with the medicines and the NPS is reminding patients that 'generic medicines are an equal choice'.

TGA Consultation: Evidence required to support indications for listed medicines : 30/11/-0001 :

The TGA is seeking comments from interested parties on proposed amendments to the Evidence Required to Support Indications for Listed Medicines (excluding sunscreens and disinfectants). The document has been revised following an initial round of consultations earlier in 2012.

A who’s who of health, welfare and digital experts has been enlisted to advise government on future social services delivery for Australia’s growing and changing population.

Minister for Human Services Senator Kim Carr has announced the appointment of a 17-member Council on Strategy and Innovation to shape service delivery into the future.

Universal pharmacist opposition to discounted PBS co-payment, but it's going ahead anyway : 30/11/-0001 :

96% of the 357 respondents voting in this week's AusPharm poll oppose the Coalition government's proposal to allow pharmacies to discount the PBS co-payment by $1.00.

Hospital pharmacists better than community pharmacists at hand hygiene : 30/11/-0001 :

84% of hospital pharmacists responding to this week's AusPharm poll told us they 'adhere strictly' or 'do OK' when it comes to hand hygiene principles.

83% of community pharmacists made the same claim however significantly more hospital (58%) than community (36%) pharmacists 'adhere strictly' to hand hygiene principles.

SHPA: pharmacists should be in all interdisciplinary teams in all practice settings : 30/11/-0001 :

The Society of Hospital Pharmacists (SHPA) has released a new position statement on the role of the pharmacist in interdisciplinary teams.

Pharmacists should be part of such teams in all care settings across the health system to optimise outcomes from medicines for patients, says SHPA, with service provision provided and prioritised on the basis of clinical need.
