Fancy yourself as a photographer? AusPharm regularly publishes photographs submitted by our members and would love to have a look at what you have to offer. Ideally, photos should have a pharmacy aspect to them but this is not mandatory. To submit a photo for consideration please email Mark Dunn.

Antarctic summer :: Paul Watkins : 01/02/2008 :

I took this photo on a very recent climbing expedition in Antarctica.

It was taken at 10.30PM (24 hour sunlight in Antarctica over summer season) at Vinson Base Camp. Our team can be seen lower left preparing campsite for the night.

Our team of five went on to summit the Vinson Massif, the highest point in Antarctica at just under 5000m.

SA PSA State Council 1919 :: Peter Bayly : 18/01/2008 :

This week seems to have assumed a historical bent so this submission from Peter Bayly is an abvious choice for this week's Photo of the week - MD. Peter writes......

I cannot pretend to have taken this myself as I was not around in 1919 in the Board Room of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Australia at 74 Pirie Street Adelaide when it was established and furnished by the Pharmaceutical Council. However, of particular interest is the third person from the left – E F Lipsham, whom some Crow-eaters will remember as the senior lecturer and head of the School of Pharmacy who pounded the middle of their back with a pestle to hammer home a point of dispensing practice.

This document was hidden within the Board Room copy of the inaugural Act of 1891 to establish a Board of Pharmacy in the province of South Australia. The province is also referred to as a colony later in the document. Assent was given on 14th October and regulations followed on July 21st 1892. Members of the Pharmaceutical Society of SA were automatically registered on application.

There was also a hand-written memorandum of apprenticeship dated 22nd August 1866 that reflects on the job training as the only form of education until the Board instituted a preliminary examination in Latin, English and Arithmetic and later a practical pharmacy examination. Green iguana :: Howard Teague : 14/12/2007 :

With the busy Xmas holiday season coming up soon, we recently took a few weeks break to collect my daughter from ANU in Canberra, and came home via the NSW South Coast, where we called in at the excellent Mogo Zoo near Moruya , where I took the photo of the iguana.

It was taken through glass, and from around 6 metres away (new camera.. no talent involved).

Wheat crop :: Bill Arnold : 30/11/2007 :

Some of this year's (failed) wheat crop between Echuca and Barmah last month.

An example of how the extending drought is destroying farms and communities around the nation. City dwellers will begin to realise the reality of the situation as food price rises inevitably follow crop failures.

Floriade :: Rob Maron : 16/11/2007 :

Here is a photo I took at Floriade this year.

It was a stunning display of flowers even though we have had virtually no rain and my garden is turning to dust!

They used water from Lake Burley Griffin to water this year's Floriade and I don't have access to that

F111 dump and burn :: Jason Keily : 26/10/2007 :

This photo was taken last Sunday at the Lexmark Gold Coast Indy, just prior to the main race. The photo was taken from a balcony on the 15th floor of Kingsrow Central, which is directly opposite the V8 pits.

The shot is of an F111 performing a dump and burn procedure. From where I was standing you could feel the heat from the flames. The shot was taken with a Nikkon D70 fitted with a 70-300 lens.

Balloon at Lake Burley Griffin :: Graeme Watson : 19/10/2007 :

I thought I would send along one of my photos, which has nothing at all to do with pharmacy. It was taken at Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra earlier this year and has been doing reasonably well in both national and international photographic exhibitions.

For those interested, the balloon was photographed at Lake Burley Griffin on a Pentax *ist DS using a Pentax 16->45 zoom lens and recorded as a RAW file, and the sunrise was shot at Shoalhaven Heads on the NSW south coast using the same camera and lens.

Orcas :: Greg Kyle : 05/10/2007 :

I was in Canada recently to present a paper at the 23rd International Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology and Therapeutic Risk Management in Quebec City.

On the way home, we spent some time in Vancouver and went whale watching. We were around a pod of transient (seal eating) orcas for about ½ an hour as they swam, breached and waved their tails in the Gulf Islands near Vancouver Island. It was a fantastic experience.

Wagonga Inlet :: Martine Light : 21/09/2007 :

This photo, taken by my daughter, is the view from our house of the Wagonga Inlet in Narooma.

Needless to say after a hard day's work in the pharmacy this view never ceases to amaze me and lift my spirits!

I consider myself very lucky to work and live in such a pristine area.
